Chris Brown to be Sentenced for London Nightclub Brawl
Grammy-winning singer pleaded guilty to affray charge for 2023 incident.
Grammy-winning singer Chris Brown is scheduled to be sentenced Monday for his involvement in a brawl at a London nightclub three years ago. Brown, 37, pleaded guilty in July at London's Southwark Crown Court to a count of affray, stemming from an incident where he attacked a music producer with a bottle.
Prosecutors stated that the altercation occurred in February 2023 at the Tape nightclub in London's Mayfair neighborhood and was captured on surveillance cameras. Brown had initially denied attacking Abraham Diaw with a bottle. In exchange for his guilty plea, charges of assault, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, and possessing an offensive weapon were dropped.
Brown's friend and vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, also pleaded guilty to affray and will be sentenced alongside Brown. Following the incident, Brown left the United Kingdom but was later arrested in May 2025 at a Manchester hotel while in the city for a concert.
He had been released on 5 million pounds ($6.7 million) bail, which permitted him to tour in Europe and North America during the previous summer. He was again released on bail on Friday and faces a maximum sentence of three years in prison for the affray charge.
Brown, who achieved stardom as a teenager in 2005, received his first Grammy in 2011 for best R&B album for “F.A.M.E.” and a second in 2025 for “11:11 (Deluxe).” His career has been marked by legal issues, including a felony conviction in 2009 for assaulting his then-girlfriend, Rihanna. He has also faced arrests in several U.S. states for altercations and was questioned in Paris in 2019 on suspicion of rape, though he was released without charge.
