A woman walking her dog was critically injured Thursday morning when she was struck by a vehicle driven by a child, according to Oakland police. The collision occurred around 9:30 a.m. PT in a crosswalk.

Another young child, believed to be the brother of the driver, was also a passenger in the vehicle. Both juveniles are reportedly under the age of 10. A family member identified the children as brothers, aged 7 and 4.

Police stated the juvenile driver sideswiped another vehicle before losing control and veering into the crosswalk, striking the pedestrian. Surveillance video captured the white vehicle hitting a car in the opposite lane before careening towards the crosswalk.

The pedestrian, a woman in her 30s, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. Witnesses described her as appearing "lifeless" after the collision.

The vehicle crashed into a retaining wall. The two children were taken to a hospital and were reported to be in stable condition. The 7-year-old sustained a broken leg, and his 4-year-old brother suffered a concussion, according to the family member. Airbags in the vehicle deployed during the crash.

The children's parents were reportedly asleep at home when the incident occurred. They were contacted by officers and are cooperating with the investigation, the Oakland Police Department said in a statement.
