An unidentified child died from injuries sustained after jumping from Arizona's London Bridge, according to the Lake Havasu City Police Department. The incident occurred around 8:50 a.m. on Tuesday when the child leapt from the structure into the water below.

Witnesses reported observing the child fall into the water, briefly resurface, and then disappear beneath the surface. Responding officers from the Lake Havasu City Police and Fire Departments initiated a search of the shoreline and water. A fire department crew member discovered the unresponsive child during an underwater search approximately 22 minutes after the jump.

Life-saving measures were administered to the child on a boat before transport to Havasu Regional Medical Center in critical condition. The child was subsequently flown to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada, where they succumbed to their injuries on Wednesday.

The specific circumstances surrounding the child's death are still under investigation by the police department. The depth of the water directly beneath the bridge varies between five to 10 feet, depending on the location and seasonal water levels.

The London Bridge, originally built in the 1830s in London, England, was purchased in 1968 by Missouri entrepreneur Robert P. McCulloch. It was disassembled, with each granite brick labeled, and shipped to Lake Havasu, Arizona, where it was reassembled. McCulloch, who founded McCulloch Motors Corporation, paid $2.46 million for the bridge.
