Chiefs Sign Justin Watson, Tyreek Hill Speculation Continues After Tyquan Thornton Injury

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed wide receiver Justin Watson to their practice squad, a move made partly due to the injury of Tyquan Thornton. Watson previously played for the Chiefs from 2022 to 2024 before a stint with the Houston Texans.

Watson suffered an Achilles/calf injury during his time with the Texans, which sidelined him for most of the regular season. He did, however, participate in special teams during the playoffs.

"He was a good player for us when he was here," head coach Andy Reid said of Watson. "He can run, and he’s fast; he has great size. He’s willing to do everything; he knows the offense; he’s a smart kid."

The addition of Watson comes as the Chiefs placed wide receiver Tyquan Thornton on injured reserve after he sustained a dislocated left ankle in Week 4, an injury that is expected to keep him out for at least four games.

Following Thornton's injury, speculation has intensified regarding a potential return of Tyreek Hill. Reports indicate the Chiefs have reached out to Hill's agent about the possibility of bringing him back to Kansas City. Hill, a five-time All-Pro, previously won Super Bowl LIV with the Chiefs before being traded to the Miami Dolphins. He also experienced a knee injury last season. The potential return of Hill may be complicated by ongoing legal issues, including allegations of physical abuse detailed in his divorce proceedings.

Tyreek Hill of the Kansas City Chiefs looks on from the sidelines against the San Francisco 49ers during the second quarter of a game at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, Saturday, Aug. 14, 2021.
