Chiefs Coach Andy Reid Links Travis Kelce's Performance to Taylor Swift's Influence
Reid suggests the pop star's demanding schedule may motivate the tight end, while Kelce himself focused on offseason training.
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid suggested that pop star Taylor Swift may be a motivating factor in tight end Travis Kelce's strong performance in the early weeks of the NFL season. Kelce recorded nine catches for 101 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs' overtime victory against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night, marking his first 100-yard receiving game in the regular season since November 4, 2024.
"I think Taylor (Swift), you're putting on four-hour shows, you've got to work hard, too. So, I'm sure she kicks him in the butt a little bit there, too," Reid told reporters on Monday, humorously addressing speculation about Swift's influence on Kelce. He acknowledged that Swift has been present at both of the Chiefs' games this season.
Swift was seen celebrating Kelce's touchdown against the Colts, at one point flashing her wedding ring and exclaiming, "That's my husband." She also attended the Chiefs' season opener.
Kelce, however, attributed his performance to dedicated offseason training. Reid noted that Kelce has been focusing on his physical conditioning, particularly his strength and glutes, to maintain power, speed, and explosiveness. "He's really focused in on his body strength and his glutes and everything where you develop all the power and speed and maintain it and he's done a good job in those areas," Reid said.
The Chiefs secured a 33-30 win over the Colts, bringing their season record to 2-0. Kelce's performance has been a key factor in the team's early success.
