Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid expressed support for offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and his wife, Mia, after she was shot during an incident at their home in Ashburn, Virginia, on Sunday. Mia Bieniemy is reportedly in stable condition.

"Our hearts go out to Eric Bieniemy. Mia is stable, which is a plus," Reid said Monday during the team's training camp practice, according to ESPN. "We all love EB and you hate seeing those things happen. Real life. You take care of that. She's a saint, one of God's good blessings. But things happen."

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office arrested Elijah Zion Bieniemy, 27, the son of Eric and Mia Bieniemy, in connection with the shooting. He faces charges of malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharging a firearm inside a dwelling. He is being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

Deputies responding to the incident found Mia Bieniemy, 57, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Eric Bieniemy, who was with the Chiefs at their practice earlier on Sunday, was not present for Monday's workout.

The Chiefs organization acknowledged the incident. "Out of respect for their privacy, we won't have a comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them," the team stated to the Associated Press.

Eric Bieniemy rejoined the Chiefs as offensive coordinator in January after a previous tenure with the team. He also had coaching roles with UCLA and the Commanders, and previously spent 10 seasons working with Reid in Kansas City. He was with the Chiefs for their Super Bowl Championship Ring Ceremony on June 15, 2023.
