Chick-fil-A Introduces Spicy Sauce, First New Permanent Flavor in a Decade
The fast-food chain is adding a spicy version of its signature sauce to menus nationwide on November 16.
Chick-fil-A is launching its first new permanent sauce in 10 years: Spicy Chick-fil-A Sauce. The new offering will be available at restaurants across the country starting November 16. The sauce will come in both standard dipping cups and 8-ounce bottles.
The company describes the Spicy Chick-fil-A Sauce as a blend of the classic Chick-fil-A Sauce's mustard notes and smoky tang, enhanced with spicy peppers and a subtle sweetness. Chick-fil-A's menu team stated their goal was to honor the original flavor while creating a distinct new experience.
"We know our guests love bold, spicy flavors, and in our year of newstalgia, we're turning up the heat on a classic," said Allison Duncan, Chick-fil-A's director of menu and packaging. "As our first new permanent sauce in 10 years, Spicy Chick-fil-A Sauce delivers an exciting kick to the signature flavor our guests know and love."
Speculation about a spicy sauce had been circulating among customers on platforms like Reddit prior to the official announcement. Some users expressed enthusiasm for the idea, while others questioned whether the sauce would deliver a sufficient level of heat. One Reddit commenter noted, "A big pet peeve of mine is so many food items that say 'spicy' but aren't. I'm skeptical of this sauce too."
Another user humorously remarked, "You mean I no longer have to mix my CFA and Buffalo to make Chickfalo sauce anymore." Echoing sentiments about the authenticity of spicy offerings from fast-food chains, one commenter wrote, "most places market something 'spicy' and it barely has any kick."
According to Chick-fil-A, research conducted over the past year indicated that a spicy version of their signature sauce was the most frequently requested addition by customers. Earlier this year, the chain tested spicy chicken strips at two locations in Georgia.
Spicy Chick-fil-A Sauce marks the first addition to the chain's permanent sauce lineup since the Sweet & Spicy Sriracha sauce was introduced in 2016. The original lineup of Honey Mustard, Barbeque, and Polynesian sauces was first introduced in 1984. The classic Chick-fil-A Sauce debuted nationwide in 2006.
