Chick-fil-A Debuts Spicy Sauce, Faces Scrutiny Over CEO Remarks
The fast-food chain rolls out its first new permanent sauce in a decade, amid ongoing questions about its corporate stances.
Chick-fil-A is introducing a new Spicy Chick-fil-A Sauce nationwide on November 16, marking the first addition to its permanent sauce lineup in 10 years. This new condiment is a spicier version of the brand's signature sauce, first released in 2006.
The Spicy Chick-fil-A Sauce, described as having spicy peppers and a subtle sweetness, will be available in dipping cups and 8-ounce squeeze bottles. Its predecessor, the original Chick-fil-A Sauce, contains notes of mustard and a smoky tang.
Allison Duncan, director of menu and packaging at Chick-fil-A, stated that the company aimed to offer customers a new take on a familiar flavor. "We know our guests love bold, spicy flavors, and in our year of ‘newstalgia,’ we’re turning up the heat on a classic," Duncan said.
The announcement has generated varied reactions from fans. Some expressed excitement on social media, anticipating the new flavor. Others voiced skepticism, questioning whether the sauce would deliver sufficient heat, drawing parallels to past menu items like the spicy chicken strips, which had mixed reviews and are no longer available in the U.S.
Amidst the menu news, Chick-fil-A CEO Andrew Cathy addressed the company's stance on LGBTQ rights in a recent interview. The topic has been a point of discussion since his father, Dan Cathy, previously stated the company did not favor same-sex marriage. Andrew Cathy reiterated the company's focus on "hospitality, serving great-tasting food, and great service."
