The Chicago Cubs have introduced a new entertainment venture with the launch of an original romantic comedy series, "Nine Innings to Love," exclusively on their TikTok account. The series, which debuted on August 31, 2026, consists of 17 short-form episodes that unfold over the course of a single Cubs game at Wrigley Field.

The narrative follows Ava, an aspiring romance writer played by Veronica Garrubbo, who is in a creative slump, and David, portrayed by Sid Kutikkad, a skeptical seatmate who doubts the existence of romance. After an accidental meeting in the bleachers, Ava promises to help David find a summer fling within the ballpark. As Ava transforms Wrigley Field into a setting for romantic pursuits, encountering plot points like a makeover, a returning ex, and a dramatic ninth-inning chase, she begins to realize a love story might be unfolding between them.

"Nine Innings to Love" was created and written by Cubs Productions, the team's internal creative workforce, and directed by Chicago filmmaker Adam Sobel. Production services were provided by Coyote Sun Productions.

Jen Martindale, the Cubs' executive vice president of marketing and communications, stated that Wrigley Field has historically been a place for memories, friendships, and the beginnings of love stories. She described the series as a celebration of the "magic of a summertime Cubs game" presented in a format designed for Gen Z and millennial audiences, blending baseball, BookTok fandom, and classic rom-com elements.

The announcement has divided fans across social media. Some criticized the move, questioning the franchise's priorities and labeling it as unserious or "pathetic." Conversely, many on TikTok expressed enthusiasm, calling the series "so fun" and encouraging others to embrace lighthearted entertainment. One user praised the Cubs, stating, "This is absolutely hilarious omg people are such party poopers y'all need to learn to have some silly goofy fun."
