Cheshire Police Officer Sacked for Sexual Misconduct
Former officer Anthony Spelman engaged in 'highly sexualised' exchanges with 12 women, fantasized about rape, and viewed pornography while on duty.
A police officer with Cheshire Police has been dismissed after engaging in a pattern of sexual misconduct, including fantasizing about rape, viewing pornography on duty, and exchanging a large volume of sexual messages with multiple women.
Anthony Spelman, a former police constable, was found to have pursued a woman whose son he had previously arrested. He reportedly recognized her on a dating site, sent her sexual messages, and subsequently met with her.
According to a misconduct report, Spelman's behavior constituted an abuse of his position for sexual purposes. Between April and September 2023, he exchanged up to 90 'highly sexualised' messages daily with 12 different women while on duty. The exchanges demonstrated a preoccupation with his own sexual matters in the workplace.
The report also confirmed that Spelman accessed pornography on his personal mobile phone and shared his desire for 'rape role-playing' with a colleague while on shift. These actions were deemed gross misconduct.
Chief Constable Mike Evans stated that Spelman's behavior fell far below the expected standards for police officers and disregarded the oath to act with honesty and integrity. Spelman has been dismissed from Cheshire Constabulary and barred from re-entering the profession. Evans emphasized that such breaches of principles will result in similar consequences for any officer found to be in violation of the constabulary's standards.
