Chelsea has finalized a club-record deal worth £117 million to acquire midfielder Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa. The 23-year-old England international is set to sign a six-year contract, with an option for an additional year at Stamford Bridge.

Rogers is scheduled to undergo his medical on Monday following his return from international duty with England at the 2026 World Cup. This transfer surpasses the previous record for an English player, which was the £116 million fee Manchester City paid for Elliot Anderson earlier this summer. It also marks Chelsea's most expensive signing, exceeding the £107 million spent on Enzo Fernandez in 2023.

The acquisition comes as new Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso works to reshape his squad ahead of the upcoming Premier League season. Rogers joined Aston Villa on February 1, 2024, from Championship club Middlesbrough. During his tenure with Villa, he scored 21 goals in 85 league appearances and was part of the team that secured the Europa League title last season. He has made 21 senior appearances for England, scoring once, and played in six matches during the recent World Cup.
