Chelsea's 21-year-old goalkeeper, Mike Penders, is being tipped for an "absolutely elite" future by those within the club's Cobham training ground. Described as no ordinary understudy, the 6ft 7in player has reportedly developed an unshakeable mentality and a secret signal, according to reports.

Penders made his Premier League debut off the bench at Everton in the previous week after the team's starting goalkeeper suffered a broken jaw. He has been described by insiders as possessing "huge" potential. His performance in that match saw him rise to the challenge and help Chelsea secure their first Premier League clean sheet in nine months.

Penders' journey includes his debut for Genk at the age of 18 in 2024, where he made 25 appearances before joining Chelsea. Last season, he played on loan for Chelsea's sister club, Strasbourg, reaching the semi-finals of the French Cup and the Conference League.

His form at Strasbourg also earned him a place in Belgium's World Cup squad. He has represented his country at every youth level from Under 17s to Under 21s.
