A former chef has been found guilty of manslaughter for fatally stabbing the husband of a woman with whom he was having an affair. Robert Marshall, 43, was convicted after a confrontation at his rural property in Bungonia, New South Wales, in March 2024.

Marshall returned home from a work shift and was confronted by Adam Cordingley, who questioned him about an affair Marshall had with Cordingley's wife. According to Marshall's police interview, Cordingley initiated a physical altercation, punching Marshall multiple times.

During the struggle, Marshall used a hunting knife, stabbing Cordingley. He then contacted the police. In bodycam footage, Marshall admitted to the affair and expressed remorse, telling officers, "I had an affair with his wife. That was like nine months ago." When asked if the situation was still difficult, he responded, "Yeah." He further stated, "I had no intentions of stabbing him. I'm a f***ing idiot."

During his trial in the NSW Supreme Court, Marshall claimed he did not remember using the knife and asserted self-defense. The jury acquitted him of murder but found him guilty of manslaughter. He is scheduled to appear in court for a sentencing hearing in September.
