Chef Claims Soho House Fired Him for Complaining About Out-of-Date Food

A former chef at the private members' club Soho House in London claims he was fired for complaining about the alleged practice of selling out-of-date food to customers. Kamran Khan, 30, stated in a video shared on TikTok and X that he was dismissed from his role at the Shoreditch branch after raising concerns about food labeling and what he described as a "rat infestation."

Khan alleges that staff were instructed to remove old "use by" labels from prepared food and apply new ones when the items had not been sold. He claims this practice was ongoing and that he was personally pressured to participate in it. Khan reported these concerns to Hackney Council's environmental health department on September 17, after an internal complaint he made was reportedly upheld but led to no meaningful change.

"I have recorded the relabelling of out-of-date food covertly as evidence and it occurs constantly. I believe this poses a real risk to public health," Khan told the Daily Mail. He added that he had raised the issues informally with senior staff multiple times before escalating the matter.

Kam Adams, a Labour councillor in Hackney, confirmed that the allegations regarding food safety and hygiene practices at Soho House Shoreditch were brought to his attention. He stated that he escalated the matter to Hackney Council's food safety and environmental health teams, who have now begun an investigation. He declined to comment further on the ongoing operational details of the investigation.

Soho House, which has venues worldwide including in London and Manchester, has acknowledged awareness of Khan's video and stated that they are investigating the matter internally. The club, known for its celebrity clientele including the Duchess of Sussex and Wayne and Coleen Rooney, was first opened in central London in 1995. It currently has an estimated 119,000 members across 27 venues in 10 countries, with global membership costing approximately £1,500.
