Cheeky Monkeys Strike a Pose for Photographer
Three Gelada monkeys in Ethiopia's Highlands were captured on camera appearing to smile nervously at an approaching photographer.
A series of photographs has captured a peculiar moment in the Ethiopian Highlands, where three Gelada monkeys appeared to pose for the camera with distinct grins. Photographer Dale Morris observed the primates during a visit to the region.
According to Morris, Gelada monkeys exhibit smiling and grinning behaviors when they feel nervous or uncomfortable. He stated that the three monkeys he encountered began to smile as he approached them slowly with his camera, suggesting the attention made them uneasy.
The monkeys, identified as Gelada monkeys, were seen in the Ethiopian Highlands, an area situated at an elevation of over 3,500 meters. The photographer noted that the mother was accompanied by her young, and they were traveling with a larger herd, which can sometimes number in the hundreds.
