Charlie Kirk's parents, Robert and Kathryn Kirk, and his widow, Erika Kirk, are scheduled to attend a weeklong pretrial hearing for Tyler Robinson, the 23-year-old man accused of his murder. The hearing, set to begin Monday in Utah, will be the first time Kirk's immediate family confronts Robinson in court.

Prosecutors will present evidence to demonstrate that sufficient grounds exist for Robinson to stand trial for the September 10, 2025, killing of Kirk. Among the evidence anticipated for introduction are forensic analyses, surveillance video, recordings of witness statements, autopsy findings, and alleged text messages from Robinson admitting involvement. These details were outlined by prosecutors, who are seeking the death penalty for Robinson.

A judge denied a defense request to remove the possibility of capital punishment on June 26. Robinson has not yet entered a plea.

Erika Kirk has taken over leadership of Turning Point USA, an organization co-founded by her late husband, following his death. While she has become more public, Kirk's parents, who reside in Illinois, have largely maintained a private life. Robert Kirk worked in construction and owned an architecture firm, with past projects including work on Trump Tower. Kathryn Kirk was reportedly a mental health counselor.

In a 2018 Chicago Tribune profile, Charlie Kirk described his parents as Republicans but not particularly ardent ones. Following his death, Senator Marsha Blackburn shared a photo with Kirk's parents during a ceremony where President Donald Trump posthumously awarded Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom in October. While Kirk's parents have largely stayed out of the spotlight, Senator Marsha Blackburn posted a photo with when Trump honored Charlie with a posthumous Presidential Medal of Freedom

Robinson surrendered to authorities, and investigators learned he sent numerous text messages to his transgender partner, Lance Twiggs, also known as 'Luna,' during the 33 hours he was at large. These messages allegedly detailed his involvement in the shooting and efforts to evade capture. Twiggs, who was living with Robinson at the time of the incident, has cooperated with authorities and has not been charged or implicated in the shooting. The judge has ruled that Twiggs will not be required to testify in person at the hearing. Tyler Robinson has been charged with aggravated murder for the September 10 killing of Kirk

Charlie Kirk's death in front of thousands of students at Utah Valley University occurred two months before the 2024 presidential election. Erika Kirk, who took the helm of Turning Point USA after her husband's death, will also come face to face with his accused killer
