Charley Hull Reveals Near-Miss Forehead Tattoo During Drunken Ibiza Trip
The professional golfer shared a wild story about a drunken decision at 17 that could have permanently altered her appearance.
Professional golfer Charley Hull has shared an anecdote from her youth involving a near-permanent decision made under the influence of alcohol. At the age of 17, during a trip to Ibiza, Hull nearly had the phrase "Hold Tight" tattooed on her forehead.
In a Q&A with Golfweek, Hull, who is now 30, explained that the impulsive decision was made with her friend James during a night of partying. "I was coming back from the club, and I thought it would be a great idea to get a tattoo across my head, because me and my best mate, James, our favorite thing we always said to each other was ‘Hold tight, hold tight,’" Hull recounted.
Fortunately, her friend intervened, dissuading her from the forehead placement. Instead, Hull ended up with the tattoo on her foot, with her friend getting a matching one on his arm. "He wouldn’t let me get it on my forehead. Instead, I got it on my foot and it says, ‘hold tight.’ He got a matching one on his arm."
Hull woke up the following morning with a hangover and no memory of getting the tattoo. "We went back to the hotel, woke in the morning hungover, and I went to James, ‘Bloody hell, was I that drunk last night?’ I walked back with a plastic bag on my foot,'" she said. Upon learning what had happened, Hull expressed surprise, stating, "What? I got a tattoo?"
This "Hold Tight" tattoo is one of three Hull has. She also has a tattoo of her ex-husband’s name, John “Ozzie” Smith, an English MMA fighter, on her wrist, which she has attempted to have removed. Her third tattoo is a matching lightning bolt with her best friend and fellow professional golfer, Georgia Hall. Hull's lightning bolt is on her right pinky finger, symbolizing their shared sentiment of having each other's back. "I would say that we are electric together, you know what I mean? We got each other’s back,” Hull explained.
In addition to discussing her tattoos, Hull also touched upon her efforts to quit smoking and vaping. She described the process as relatively manageable due to her strong-minded nature. Hull has been using on! nicotine pouches for approximately a year and a half. She mentioned that her journey with these products began partly as a response to stress and a prescription for Xanax a few years prior. Concerned about potential addiction to Xanax, she discarded the medication and turned to vaping for a less restrictive alternative. However, finding herself vaping excessively, she transitioned to smoking, which she felt offered more natural boundaries as it required going outside. Eventually, she moved to nicotine pouches. Hull noted that her decision to seek alternatives coincided with her ADHD diagnosis.
