Charles Spencer Declines to Discuss Prince Harry's Royal Estrangement

Charles Spencer, the brother of the late Princess Diana, has opted not to discuss his nephew Prince Harry's strained relationship with the royal family. In a recent interview with People magazine, Spencer was asked about the Duke of Sussex's 2023 memoir, "Spare," which details his fractured ties with royal relatives. Spencer responded by asking the interviewer if it would be acceptable to avoid discussing Harry extensively, a request that was granted.

Spencer, who is promoting his forthcoming memoir, "Swan Song: Diana, My Sister," stated that he had informed both Prince Harry and his brother, Prince William, about his book simultaneously. He recalled that Harry was "completely fine" with the memoir, and that he had reassured both princes that their privacy would not be compromised, framing their portrayal as "examples of two little boys who had the most exceptional mother."

Despite the reassurances, Spencer acknowledged that it was a "concern" that the princes might be bothered by revelations in his book, particularly concerning their father, King Charles. He suggested that he had refrained from including more potentially damaging information about the monarch, implying that he could have written a far more sensational account.

Excerpts from Spencer's memoir have already detailed his alleged conversations with King Charles following Princess Diana's death in 1997, including claims that the King reacted with elation. Buckingham Palace issued a statement in response, suggesting that "fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgment and color memory." Prince Harry was reportedly made aware of the book's contents in advance, while Prince William has not publicly commented on the memoir or his relationship with his brother.
