Charles Barkley has revealed that he politely declined an invitation to the wedding of pop superstar Taylor Swift and NFL tight end Travis Kelce. The event took place on July 3, 2026. Barkley, a prominent figure in sports media, stated his reasons for declining in an interview with "Unfiltered with Ricky Bo and Bill Colarulo" on 97.5 The Fanatic.

Barkley explained his general aversion to attending such events, saying, "I don’t go to weddings or funerals." Despite receiving the invitation, he expressed concern about the potential for the ceremony to become a "crap show." He added, "I love Travis and Jason [Kelce], and I’ve only met Taylor one time, but yeah, I did get an invite. But I said, that’s just too much. I just want to hang out and play golf, and I don’t want to dress up and all that other stuff. But I appreciate the invitation; it was pretty special."

The revelation came after speculation arose that Barkley might not have been invited, as his name did not appear in reports of attendees. The Swift-Kelce wedding was a high-profile event that drew a notable number of sports and media personalities. Among those reportedly in attendance were members of the "NFL on Fox" broadcast team, including Tom Brady, Kevin Burkhardt, Greg Olsen, Erin Andrews, and Charissa Thompson, as well as Michael Strahan, Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman, and Dean Blandino. Additionally, several individuals involved with Prime Video’s "Thursday Night Football" coverage, such as Tony Gonzalez, Richard Sherman, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Andrew Whitworth, received invitations. ESPN personalities Joe Buck, Rich Eisen, Pat McAfee, and Stephen A. Smith were also said to have been invited.

Michael Strahan, appearing on "Good Morning America," described the wedding as Swift and Kelce’s "dream wedding" and "really amazing." Conversely, former NFL player and podcaster Will Compton expressed surprise at not receiving an invitation, telling "Wake Up Barstool" that he was "kind of flabbergasted I didn’t get that invite."
