A charity in Hull, United Kingdom, has provided free school uniforms to more than 100 children preparing for the new academic year, according to reports. Doreen's, located at North Point Shopping Centre, collects unwanted school uniforms, repurposes them, and distributes them to families in need across Hull and East Yorkshire without charge.
Ashleigh Hirst, the charity's co-founder, stated that the demand for their services has been exceptionally high. "The demand is so high so we are just wanting to help with whatever we can," Hirst said.
The charity has experienced a particularly busy week, with individuals queuing outside their premises before opening hours. "We knew that there was a need, but we didn't realise how big of a need there actually was," she added.
Sam Singh, founder of Uniform Direct, noted that items such as trainers and school shoes are frequently the most expensive components of school attire for families.
Doreen's efforts aim to alleviate the financial burden on families as children return to school, with the organization repurposing donated items to meet the community's needs.
