Charity Regulator Criticizes Trustees Over Liberty Recycling's Inaction
Trustees, including a Sinn Féin TD, are legally responsible for the governance of the now liquidated charity.

The Charity Regulator has highlighted the inaction of trustees at Liberty Recycling, a charity that has since been liquidated. Among the trustees legally responsible for the charity's governance were Linda Behan, her husband Brian Behan, and Sinn Féin TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh.
According to the Regulator, one trustee was employed by Liberty Recycling in a role that made them directly accountable to the CEO. This position was responsible for ensuring the charity maintained its honesty. The Regulator stated that the trustees displayed a ‘lack of engagement with, and appreciation for, the seriousness of the situation in which’ the charity found itself. The regulator’s findings underscore a failure in oversight for the now-dissolved organization.
