Chargers Work Out Marquez Valdes-Scantling Amid Ladd McConkey Injury Concerns

The Los Angeles Chargers brought in former two-time Super Bowl champion Marquez Valdes-Scantling for a workout Tuesday, indicating potential concerns about wide receiver Ladd McConkey's availability for the upcoming game.

McConkey is currently listed as "day to day" with a rib injury sustained during the Chargers' Week 1 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. He exited the game in the third quarter after a hard hit to the chest.

Valdes-Scantling, an eight-year veteran, would provide a deep-threat option for the Chargers. The 31-year-old played a key role in the Kansas City Chiefs' back-to-back Super Bowl victories in 2022 and 2023.

Before his workout with the Chargers, Valdes-Scantling spent five months with the Dallas Cowboys but was released during final roster cuts. He had been dealing with a knee injury during Cowboys training camp, limiting his preseason performance to three receptions on five targets for 45 yards.

Originally a fifth-round pick by the Green Bay Packers in 2018, Valdes-Scantling has accumulated 219 receptions for 3,686 yards and 21 touchdowns over his career. He notably made a 16-yard reception in Super Bowl 58 that contributed to the Chiefs' lead.

The Chargers' potential need for additional receiving depth comes as they prepare to face the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.
