Chargers Wide Receiver Ladd McConkey Suffers Concussion, Ruled Out Against Chiefs
McConkey exited the game in the first quarter after a head injury and was later diagnosed with a concussion.
Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey was ruled out of the game against the Kansas City Chiefs due to a concussion sustained in the first quarter.
The injury occurred when McConkey received a pass from quarterback Justin Herbert near the 50-yard line. He was tackled and subsequently hit his head on the ground. With over 13 minutes remaining in the second quarter, McConkey was seen heading to the locker room with a towel over his head.
Later in the second quarter, McConkey was officially declared out for the remainder of the contest with a concussion.
This latest injury adds to a season marked by health issues for McConkey. He had been managing a rib injury suffered in the team's Week 1 game against the Arizona Cardinals. Although he played through the discomfort, his effectiveness has been limited in recent weeks. In Week 4, McConkey had only two targets and no receptions. In Week 5, he was on the active roster but remained on the sideline, available only in an emergency capacity.
McConkey's lone reception in the first quarter against the Chiefs was for a 17-yard gain. The Chargers trailed the undefeated Chiefs 19-3 at halftime.
The Chargers have been significantly impacted by injuries this season, with other key players like Joe Alt, Derwin James, and wide receiver Tre Harris also being ruled out.
