Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel expressed a humorous sentiment regarding Las Vegas Raiders' pass rusher Maxx Crosby ahead of their upcoming matchup. McDaniel joked that he would be amenable if Crosby felt tired and decided to “take a nap and didn’t play” in Sunday's game at SoFi Stadium.
Despite the lighthearted wish, McDaniel acknowledged that such a scenario is unlikely. He and his team are preparing to face one of the NFL's top defensive players.
“Excited to go compete against him,” McDaniel said on Thursday, as reported by the California Post. He recognized Crosby as a “remarkable player” who embodies an “all in, relentless” style of play.
Crosby, who is in his eighth year with the Raiders after a reported trade attempt to the Baltimore Ravens this offseason, had a strong performance in the team's Week 1 victory over the Miami Dolphins. He recorded 1.5 sacks and three quarterback hits in that game, a performance McDaniel noted.
“It takes a group of people to stop a player of his caliber,” McDaniel commented on Crosby’s impact. “He’s one of the rare ones.” McDaniel indicated that Crosby would remain a primary focus for the Chargers' defensive considerations throughout the game.
