The family of actor Chadwick Boseman is engaged in a legal dispute over his estate, nearly six years after his death. His older brothers, Derrick and Kevin Boseman, filed a lawsuit on behalf of their parents, Leroy and Carolyn Boseman, against Boseman's widow, Taylor Simone Ledward.

The lawsuit, filed July 17 in Los Angeles, seeks to remove Ledward as the administrator of Boseman's estate and compel her to distribute assets to his parents. According to court documents, Ledward inherited 50% of the actor's estate, with the remaining half to be divided equally between his parents, each receiving 25%. The filing alleges that Ledward has not distributed the estate as ordered by a court in 2022.

“Nearly four years later, [Taylor] has still not distributed the estate,” the documents state. “Instead, [Taylor] continues to exert unilateral control over [Chadwick’s] estate, denying [Chadwick’s] family long overdue closure or participation in decision-making regarding matters affecting Leroy and Carolyn’s interests in [Chadwick’s] estate.”

The Boseman brothers also claim that Ledward has failed to fully account for all of the late actor's assets. This includes royalties, residuals, image and intellectual property rights, real property, a previously undisclosed bank account, and other personal property. While Ledward previously stated that the estate was valued at over $3.8 million in 2022, including $3.3 million in stock for Chadwick Boseman, Inc., and over $3.8 million in assets and cash, the brothers allege she has not accounted for numerous residual payments from SAG-AFTRA received between 2020 and the present.

The lawsuit further alleges that Ledward is withholding distribution of rights to the actor's intellectual property and image, which the brothers assert "properly belong to [Chadwick’s] heirs." These rights are reportedly managed by Chadwick Boseman, Inc., a company controlled by Ledward.

According to the documents, Ledward has also allegedly blocked the brothers from pursuing business opportunities that could benefit their parents. The brothers contend that Ledward's alleged lack of transparency creates the appearance that she is concealing assets from Chadwick Boseman's family and the court.

Chadwick Boseman died on August 28, 2020, at the age of 43, following a private battle with colon cancer. He did not leave a will.
