Chad Tracy Named Red Sox Manager, Signs Three-Year Contract

Chad Tracy has been named the permanent manager of the Boston Red Sox, the team announced Tuesday. This move comes as the Red Sox prepare to face the New York Yankees in a playoff series next week. Tracy, 41, has signed a three-year contract that includes a club option for the 2030 season.

The team also announced that chief baseball officer Craig Breslow's contract options for 2029 and 2030 have been exercised.

Tracy assumed interim managerial duties earlier in the season after Alex Cora and five other coaches were fired following a 10-17 start. Under Tracy's leadership, the Red Sox have achieved a 74-55 record since taking over. He was previously the manager for the Red Sox's Triple-A affiliate in Worcester.

Red Sox president and CEO Sam Kennedy praised both Tracy and Breslow for their leadership. "Over the last three years, we have watched Craig bring clarity, discipline, and conviction to the work of building our baseball operation," Kennedy said in a statement. "Chad was asked to step into a difficult situation with little notice, but the trust he immediately commanded at the major league level was earned through years of work across our organization."

Kennedy added, "What this team has accomplished over the past several months has been historic. Results matter greatly in this business, but so do judgment, character, and the ability to bring out the best in others. Craig and Chad have demonstrated all of those qualities, and they have earned our confidence in leading us forward."

Tracy began his managerial career within the Angels' farm system before joining the Red Sox organization. He played in the minors and in independent leagues but did not reach the major leagues as a player. The Red Sox are currently positioned as the second wild-card team in the American League and are on track to play the Yankees in the Bronx. Reports indicate the Yankees may not have Aaron Judge available for that series due to a calf strain.
