Chad Lowe Returns to Social Media Following Daughter's Death
Actor shares a reposted video discussing the soul after death, days after his brother Rob Lowe's son honored his late niece.
Chad Lowe has made his first social media post since the death of his 13-year-old daughter, Fiona, who died by suicide on September 29. The actor returned to Instagram on Wednesday, sharing a reposted video on his Instagram Stories.
The clip featured Irish writer Gerry Hussey speaking about the nature of the soul after death during an appearance on the "On Healing" podcast. "It is a frequency. It's an energy field. And we possess it all the time within ourselves," Hussey said in the excerpt. "We are all part of the frequency... We both possess the human and the divine. We are connected to everything that is. It just makes sense, and there’s nothing there but peace and love. So when we die, where do we go? We return to a state of peace and love."
Lowe did not add any personal commentary to the repost. The actor had remained out of the public eye since his daughter's passing.
His return to social media follows a tribute shared by his brother Rob Lowe's son, John Owen Lowe. The younger Lowe, an actor, posted a poem by Emily Dickinson titled "Hope Is the Thing With Feathers" to his Instagram Stories days after Fiona's death. The poem speaks of hope as an enduring presence, even in the face of severe hardship.
Chad Lowe, 58, and his wife Kim Painter, 52, are also parents to daughters Mabel, 17, and Nixie, 10. Fiona was their middle child.
Fiona's older sister, Mabel, also paid tribute to her sibling on Instagram, sharing a series of throwback photos and writing, "I love you so much Fiona. I wish your short time here was easier and I hope your mind is at ease now. I will honor you forever and keep your memory alive. I love you, I hope you knew just how much."
Fiona's dance teacher and the youth group she attended also shared moving tributes. Her dance teacher recalled Fiona's beaming smile and warm hugs, noting her passion and determination in dance. The youth group remembered her as an important part of their family, promising to honor her memory.
In a statement released after Fiona's death, Chad and Kim Lowe described her as "a loving young girl who was smart, creative, and loved to dance." They added, "We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona. She was adored by her sisters and she was deeply loved by her parents. In fact, she was the light of our lives. Her passing is devastating for our entire family and we ask for prayers and privacy at this time."
They also directed individuals struggling with mental health to reach out to the 988 Suicide + Crisis Lifeline. Lowe previously shared reflections on being a "girl dad" on the "Still Here Hollywood" podcast in August 2024, calling it his "greatest joy and privilege."
