A home invasion targeting the family of Mac Group CEO David Morton resulted in severe injuries to four family members, including the CEO and his two adult daughters who were shot, and his wife who was struck with a hammer.

Home Invasion Details

The incident occurred around 3:45 a.m. on Sunday when three masked men forced their way into the Morton family's gated residence in Toronto's affluent Hyde Park Circle neighborhood. Police reported that two of the intruders were armed with handguns, and the third wielded a hammer. During a struggle within the home, the suspects discharged their firearms multiple times.

David Morton and his daughters, Maggie and Cristina Zohil-Morton, sustained gunshot wounds. His wife, Doriana Zohil, was struck with a hammer. All four were transported to a hospital, where two were reported to have suffered life-altering injuries, while the other two sustained severe but non-life-threatening injuries. Police have not specified which family members sustained which severity of injuries.

Suspects and Motive

The assailants fled the scene in an SUV, but no descriptions of the suspects have been released by authorities. It remains unclear if anything was taken during the invasion. "We have no information at this point to suspect that this particular home was targeted by the suspects," Toronto Police Inspector Kristy Smith stated during a press conference. "I’m not quite sure what their motives are at this time and whether or not they were in the area looking at other houses prior."

Smith acknowledged a recent uptick in violent home invasions in upscale Toronto areas. "Across the city we've seen the carjackings decline and the home invasions increase for the purpose of stealing a car," she noted. The family's surveillance cameras captured footage of the incident, which has been turned over to the police investigation.

"People should be able to feel safe in their homes," Smith added. "I want to assure residents that the Toronto Police Service will do everything that we can to identify, locate, and bring these suspects to criminal justice."

The source indicated that Morton and one daughter were shot in the leg, while the other daughter was wounded in the arm. Reports also suggested that all four family members may have been struck by the hammer during the altercation.
