John and Jerry Carroll, a couple who have been married for 80 years, continue to share a weekly breakfast date at a McDonald's in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. John is 101 years old and Jerry is 100.
Every Friday, the couple visits the McDonald's location near Compton Road and Memorial Boulevard for their customary meal. They often join friends at the restaurant, where they are recognized by the staff. "We just love them," general manager Christina Crisp told News Channel 5. "They've been here for a long time."
Their regular order typically includes an Egg McMuffin with sausage, and they add a slice of tomato to their sandwiches. The group of friends they meet with has evolved over the years, but they continue to gather in the back of the restaurant.
The Carrolls recently marked two significant milestones: Jerry's 100th birthday on June 28 and their 80th wedding anniversary on April 18. John, a World War II veteran, shared his philosophy on maintaining a strong marriage. "Treat your wife nice," he told KOCO News. "Try to help her all you can and work hard. That's all we've had our ups and downs over the years, but we still made it."
When asked about his secret to a long life, which he shared before his 101st birthday last December, John credited regular exercise. He told News Channel 5 that he used to perform toe touches at 4 a.m. and continues to maintain a fitness routine.
