Celine Dion Falls Onstage During Paris Residency, Continues Performance
The singer experienced a tumble while performing, but quickly recovered and finished her song.
Celine Dion took a fall onstage during her Paris residency performance at the Plenitude Arena on Wednesday. The incident occurred as Dion was performing her 1998 song “Dans un autre monde.”
Video shared on Instagram by Gary Francq shows Dion hopping on one foot several times before slipping and falling to the floor. Despite the tumble, the five-time Grammy winner immediately got back on her feet and gave the audience a thumbs-up, continuing to sing as if nothing had happened.
Francq told Storyful that he was "very surprised and worried when [he] saw her fall" but was "impressed to see her get back up and continue dancing as if nothing had happened." He added that despite the incident, it was "an incredible evening."
Dion, 58, made an emotional return to the stage last month to begin her Paris residency. This return comes amid her ongoing battle with stiff person syndrome, a rare autoimmune neurological disorder that causes muscle stiffness and spasms. In 2022, Dion announced her diagnosis, which led to the cancellation of several concerts.
At the start of her residency, Dion addressed the sold-out crowd, expressing her gratitude. "I promised not to cry. Tonight I want to sing for you, for me, for life," she said. "Finally. It’s amazing we’re all together. I made a promise. I made a promise to come back and be back on stage."
Dion had previously announced 10 "unforgettable shows" in Paris for her return to the stage. Her battle with stiff person syndrome has been a significant challenge, impacting her ability to perform.
