Reality television personality Luisa Zissman and television presenter Jenny Powell have sent their teenage children to the Reading and Leeds Festival, navigating torrential rain and flood warnings. Both mothers shared updates on Instagram on Thursday as their children departed for the event, equipped with tents and backpacks.

Festival attendees were anticipating a wet bank holiday weekend, with flood alerts issued and forecasts predicting thunder, lightning, and hail across parts of the United Kingdom. Zissman posted a video of her 16-year-old daughter, Dixie, and her friends, clad in waterproof ponchos and wellington boots, heading to the festival. Zissman expressed a mix of amusement and maternal concern, detailing the extensive pre-departure talks she gave her daughter about potential festival risks.

"One very nervous mama but we have to let them spread their wings," Zissman wrote.

Powell also shared her experience sending off her 17-year-old daughter, Polly, to Leeds Festival. She described the experience as "10% excitement and 90% wondering whether water-resistant actually means waterproof." After preparing the teenagers with various water-resistant gear and closely monitoring the weather forecast, Powell recounted the muddy journey to the festival grounds.

"Then came the trolley, the bags, the 45-minute trudge through the mud… and off they disappeared into the rain, absolutely delighted," Powell stated, adding with a touch of humor, "Meanwhile, I drove home wondering if anything they own will ever be dry again."

Powell reached out to other parents attending festivals, asking about their experiences and encouraging their children to "have the BEST weekend" and to "occasionally text your mothers."

Denise Welch, whose son is the lead singer of The 1975, commented on Zissman's post, recalling similar experiences packing for Leeds Festival in the rain, noting that a prepared hamper was abandoned within an hour.

Thousands of festival-goers at Reading Festival were observed setting up camp under rainy conditions. The bank holiday weekend's weather saw downpours beginning around midday on Friday, with conditions expected to continue through Saturday and into Sunday, impacting performances by artists such as Charli XCX, Dave, Florence + The Machine, and Chase & Status.

Separately, Zissman recently faced backlash for comments made on her podcast, LuAnna, regarding fast food consumption. She stated, "I think if you eat McDonald’s and fast food, that means you’re lazy. I just feel like you’re lazy and unhealthy and you’re a sloth. I think badly about people that eat McDonald’s, especially McDonald’s breakfast, it’s just gross." Her co-host attempted to interject that a "little sausage McMuffin in the morning hits the spot," but Zissman maintained her stance that it was "rank" and could not effectively fuel one for the day.
