Actors Adam Rickitt and Katy Rickitt, known for their roles in the British soap opera Coronation Street, have been lauded for their assistance to a groom who sustained a severe ankle injury during extreme turbulence on a flight to Sicily. The incident occurred on June 30th during a flight bound for Catania Airport.
The groom, identified as Brendan, suffered a dislocated and broken ankle in multiple places when he was thrown around the cabin during what was described as the "worst turbulence ever" experienced by passengers. Despite his injury, Brendan's primary concern was that he might have ruined his wedding day, which was scheduled for the following day in Taormina.
Adam and Katy Rickitt, after providing initial aid to Brendan on the flight, used social media to try and locate him. They posted a video plea on Instagram, seeking an update on his condition and hoping to learn if the wedding had proceeded. Their efforts were successful when Brendan's bride-to-be, Amy Currie, contacted them.
Currie confirmed that the wedding did go ahead as planned. Brendan married Amy while seated in a wheelchair, having had a cast put on his injured ankle. He was also managing his recovery with prescribed medication. Amy expressed her pride in Brendan's strength and resilience, stating that he was smiling on their wedding day.
"Brendan is a complete warrior - he broke the ankle in three places and dislocated it and needs an operation," Amy wrote in a message to the Rickitts. "We have changed our flights home and cancelled the honeymoon so we will be flying back Tuesday. We are both at our beautiful wedding villa today getting ready and he is smiling in his wheelchair!"
The Rickitts shared their joy upon receiving the update. Adam Rickitt posted a celebratory message, confirming that Brendan had indeed married Amy. "He is NOW MARRIED!!! He not only dislocated his ankle but broke it in THREE places! Needs surgery but like a proper hero did the wedding in a cast and a wheelchair," he wrote.
Brendan is expected to undergo surgery for his ankle when he returns to the UK. The couple altered their travel plans, canceling their honeymoon to accommodate his recovery. The Rickitts expressed their best wishes to the newlyweds, wishing them "every bit of health, wealth and happiness."
