Cecily Strong Trolls Shane Gillis' Controversial SNL Monologue

Cecily Strong, a former cast member of "Saturday Night Live," has joined a chorus of celebrities criticizing comedian Shane Gillis for his recent monologue on the show. Gillis, who hosted the latest episode, made a joke about women who wear shorts at the gym, equating their attire to being "whores."

Strong took to Instagram Stories to express her disapproval, posting a photo of herself in gym clothes with the caption, "On my way to Pilates in my new slutty ass orange shoes and rainbow socks. Might sell sex on the way not sure."

She also drew a connection between Gillis' comments and the recent news surrounding a gang rape case at Cornell University, noting, "PS there was a gang rape at Cornell that maybe won’t count because the NY law says if you consent to drinking you consent to all that happens to you."

This is not the first time "SNL" alumni have reacted to Gillis' remarks. Ego Nwodim, another former cast member, also trolled Gillis on social media, posting a gym selfie with the caption, "Whore reporting for duty." She followed up with a photo of her breakfast, adding, "Getting my 30 grams of protein in after heauxing."

During his monologue, Gillis specifically targeted gym shorts, describing them as having "wrinkles [that] go around the cheeks and all combine at the butthole," and humorously suggested he was being filmed for TikToks.

The backlash has extended beyond former "SNL" cast members. Actor Dan Levy called Gillis "speechless" by the monologue, arguing that women wearing shorts to the gym does not make them "whores" but rather the commenters "misogynists."

Jenna Bush Hager also addressed the controversy on "Today With Jenna & Sheinelle," stating she would be "disgusted" if her husband spoke about women in such a manner and that such comments "perpetuate what is happening in our culture where people are commenting on women’s looks ad nauseam."

Comedian Kathy Griffin labeled Gillis a "hack" in an interview with Page Six, criticizing him and other comedians from "the TikTok or podcast world" for telling "jokes about women that are from like 100 years ago."

Gillis has a history with "SNL." He was originally hired as a cast member in 2019 but was fired five days later after past racist and homophobic remarks resurfaced.
