COVID-19 cases are reportedly on the rise in the United States, with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicating that cases are growing or likely growing in 47 states. The agency noted that cases are declining or likely declining in zero states and showing no significant change in three states.

In response to the uptick in cases, health officials are recommending that individuals keep at-home tests readily available. The market offers various testing options, including those that can detect COVID-19, Flu A, and Flu B. Some multi-pathogen tests are available for approximately $40 for a four-pack, while simpler COVID-only tests can be found for around $15 for a two-pack.

These at-home tests typically involve a four-step process. Users insert a nasal swab into each nostril to collect a sample. The swab is then swirled in a liquid solution, and a few drops of this mixture are placed onto the rapid test. Results are usually available within 15 minutes.

While free testing initiatives have concluded, consumers can still find competitively priced options. The CDC has also announced the availability of new vaccines designed to help with prevention against current strains. In addition to testing, health experts suggest stocking up on other items such as NIOSH-approved N95 masks, which filter at least 95% of airborne particles. Disinfectant sprays and supportive items like body pillows are also noted as potentially beneficial for comfort and health during periods of illness.
