CCTV Footage Shows Teenager's Final Moments Before Alleged Machete Attack
Court is shown graphic video of the alleged murder of 18-year-old Kon Hsu Sein in Melbourne.
Graphic CCTV footage depicting the last moments of 18-year-old Kon Hsu Sein before he was allegedly killed with machetes has been presented to a court in Victoria.
Kon Hsu Sein was allegedly murdered on December 20, 2024, in Kurunjang, west of Melbourne, during a dispute between two groups. The prosecution opened its case in the Supreme Court of Victoria on Wednesday against Ngor Agear, Myaker Myaker, and two unnamed youths. All four have pleaded not guilty to murder.
Crown prosecutor Erin Ramsay told the jury that Mr. Sein left his home with two friends shortly after 7 p.m. Less than 20 minutes later, he was cornered in a neighboring driveway and fatally stabbed. The court heard that Mr. Sein sustained cuts to his head and face so severe that his skull was fractured, and his left hand was almost completely severed from his arm. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:45 p.m.
The alleged attack occurred amid escalating tensions between rival groups in the area. Mr. Sein and his friends were associated with one group, while two of the accused were linked to the opposing group.
CCTV footage from nearby properties, played for the jury, showed a green Ford Falcon arriving on Greenhills Drive. Four of the accused, along with another male, exited the vehicle, with three carrying machetes. The group then proceeded into a laneway connecting Greenhills Drive and McBurnie Drive, where Mr. Sein and his friends were walking.
An associate of the accused reportedly approached from the other end of the laneway, trapping the three young men. While Mr. Sein's two friends managed to escape, he was pursued into the driveway of a neighboring house. CCTV captured Mr. Sein pleading, "Back off, back off," as the group advanced. He then ran into the driveway, which was out of the view of surrounding cameras.
"He was stabbed to death in that driveway," Ms. Ramsay stated. "He was cut to the head and face with such force that his skull was fractured, and his left hand was almost completely severed from his arm."
Subsequent footage showed the alleged attackers leaving the driveway less than a minute later. It was noted that one of the accused had sustained a stab wound to the eye, and another to the arm during the confrontation. The group then drove to the Melton Health Hub for medical treatment.
Neighbors who heard the commotion reportedly jumped a fence to assist Mr. Sein before police and paramedics arrived. The defense for the accused has yet to present its case. The trial is ongoing.
