CBS Sports sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson was among those who fell for a social media parody account impersonating NBA insider Shams Charania. The fake report, which claimed four-time NBA champion LeBron James had agreed to a one-year deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, was reposted by Wolfson on X, formerly Twitter.

The erroneous post stated that James would join a roster including Jaylen Brown, Tyrese Maxey, and Joel Embiid, suggesting a significant push for the 2026-27 NBA season. The report gained traction, being shared over 1,000 times on the platform.

Wolfson's repost remained visible for several hours before she was able to remove it on Tuesday morning. While other social media users were also deceived, Wolfson's position as a veteran reporter made her mistake more noticeable.

This incident is not the first time a prominent figure has been misled by NBA free agency rumors. Former NBA guard Patrick Beverley also shared an inaccurate report regarding James's decision-making process.

James's agent, Rich Paul, has confirmed that the veteran free agent is considering approximately 10 teams for the upcoming season. Among the franchises reportedly in contention are the Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and the 76ers. Paul emphasized that the decision-making process would not be rushed and that James would announce his choice when he is ready.

Despite the social media mishap, Wolfson's professional reputation remains intact. A University of Michigan alumna, she has covered numerous high-profile sporting events, including five Super Bowl sidelines, and has received an Emmy Award for her work.
