Cat Deeley Credits Simple Diet and Exercise for Maintaining Youthful Appearance
The 'This Morning' star attributes her look to yoga, walking, tennis, and a Mediterranean diet.
Cat Deeley, the long-time television presenter, is celebrating her 50th birthday and attributes her youthful appearance to a consistent, uncomplicated lifestyle that prioritizes well-being. Deeley, who has been in the public eye for three decades, views aging as a privilege, focusing on health and happiness.
Deeley's approach to fitness centers on four key elements: yoga, walking, tennis, and a Mediterranean diet. She previously shared that while living in Los Angeles, she maintained a daily 20-minute hike in the sunshine, finding it beneficial for her mental health. Since returning to the UK, where daily walks are less feasible due to weather and early work calls for 'This Morning,' she has incorporated yoga into her routine.
"I've been doing yoga for 20 years and I truly love it," Deeley stated. "It switches off my brain and helps me breathe." She emphasizes that while she may not be exceptionally flexible, yoga makes her feel good and provides a valuable 45-minute period for herself. The concentration required for yoga, focusing on breath and movement, helps to quiet her mind.
She also finds joy in playing tennis with her two sons, Milo, 10, and James, eight, describing it as a "new family obsession." These weekend tennis matches are a highlight for the family.
Regarding her diet, Deeley aims to follow a Mediterranean eating pattern when not enjoying meals prepared by 'This Morning' chefs. This typically includes a variety of fruits, vegetables, and protein. "I like a little bit of everything – predominantly fruits and vegetables and a bit of protein – but I love French bread, red wine and a coffee," she said. Deeley advocates for a balanced approach to nutrition, suggesting that individuals should listen to their bodies rather than adhering to overly restrictive or complex dietary fads.
"Like fitness, diet is about finding what works for you, and that way you can do it on a regular basis," she advised. "If you listen to everything on food, it's like, “well now you can't eat potatoes”, and “have you heard about eggs?” “don't have dairy” – and then you look at what's actually in some oat milks and that’s not good!"
Deeley begins her day with a morning juice cleanse, a mixture of celery, cucumber, lemon, and ginger that she prepares in advance. She believes that paying attention to what makes one feel better, both physically and mentally, is key to maintaining well-being and a positive outlook on aging.
