Cassidy Hutchinson Not Indicted Over Jan. 6 Testimony
A federal grand jury declined to indict the former Trump aide after prosecutors sought charges for her statements to the Jan. 6 committee.
A federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., declined to indict former Trump White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson, sources told Fox News Digital. The Justice Department had sought criminal charges against Hutchinson, alleging she lied to the House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, but the effort failed on Tuesday.
It remains unclear if federal prosecutors will attempt to secure an indictment again. Hutchinson, a former top aide to White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, was a key witness before the committee. She testified about former President Donald Trump's actions on January 6, including an account of his reaction after being told he could not travel to the Capitol. That account was later disputed by individuals familiar with the events.
Fox News Digital previously reported that a federal grand jury had heard evidence concerning potential false statements Hutchinson made to the congressional committee. At the time, a source indicated that additional evidence could be presented and that no final decisions had been made regarding charges. The New York Post also reported that the Justice Department was investigating Hutchinson for potential false statements to Congress.
The grand jury's decision not to indict does not determine the truthfulness of Hutchinson's congressional testimony, which she has maintained she stands by.
