Cash4Clubs Launches 2027 Funding Round with £500,000 Available for Grassroots Sports

Grassroots sports teams and charities now have the opportunity to apply for a share of £500,000 through the Cash4Clubs program, a Flutter UKI initiative backed by footballing figures Alan Shearer and Graeme Souness. The program, now in its 2027 cycle, will provide grants to 225 community sports organizations in the UK and Ireland. Applicants have two months to apply for grants of £2,000, with five organizations set to receive a larger £10,000 grant for the first time.

Launched in 2008, Cash4Clubs has supported the local sports ecosystem by assisting teams in developing their facilities, purchasing new equipment, and promoting participation. Last year's recipients included the LGBTQIA+ football team Newcastle Panthers and Easthouses Lily Miners Welfare FC in Midlothian, both of whom received their grants from Shearer and Souness, respectively.

"Seeing what this grant meant to Newcastle Panthers puts it all into perspective," Shearer stated. "It’s helped so many members of our local community, both directly through the club and indirectly in the wider area through the positive message they share. I would encourage any neighbourhood club to apply for this grant."

Souness emphasized the impact of smaller grants, noting, "Never underestimate the difference a small grant can make to the survival of a grassroots club or local community group." He recounted visiting Easthouses Lily Miners Welfare FC to present them with a Cash4Clubs grant, which helped them recover from financial hardship. "The application window for Cash4Clubs grants, delivered by Sported UK, reopens on October 1. If your club or organisation helps keep adults involved in sport, make sure you apply."

Over its nearly two decades of operation, Cash4Clubs has distributed more than £7 million to community athletics across the UK and Ireland. In the last two years alone, the program awarded £1.3 million to 640 clubs. The focus for this year's allocation remains on adult participation, targeting teams that address broader social issues like mental health challenges and economic deprivation through sport.
