Carys Douglas, daughter of actors Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, recently demonstrated her fluency in Spanish during a public event in Mallorca. The 23-year-old accompanied her father as he was appointed an Ambassador De Mallorca on Monday.
During the event, Carys spoke with local press, expressing her affection for the island. "Mallorca is a great part of my life, this village is my whole life, it's my place. All my favourite memories are here," she stated, according to ABC Spain. She has spent holidays at her parents' Mallorca home throughout her life.
Michael Douglas was recognized as one of the first Terra d’Honor ambassadors for his dedication to Mallorca and his role in promoting the island's culture and heritage internationally. The actor purchased his S'Estaca villa in the Tramuntana mountains in 1989 and has been involved in the local cultural life of the nearby town of Valldemossa. He and his wife have hosted numerous Hollywood guests at their property over the years.
This appearance follows Carys Douglas's professional stage debut in June. She starred as Nina in a New York production of Anton Chekhov's "The Seagull," a role previously played by actresses such as Saoirse Ronan and Emilia Clarke. A friend of Carys's told the Daily Mail that her parents, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas, were "so proud" of her acting achievement.
Carys Douglas graduated from Brown University with a degree in film and international relations. She has previously spoken about her passion for acting, telling People magazine last year, "I grew up doing theatre, and I didn't study acting in school, but that's why I'm happy to be in such an informative arts space."
Catherine Zeta-Jones has previously commented on her children's artistic pursuits, noting in 2021 that while she and Michael might suggest other career paths, they have witnessed their children's deep passion for acting. She added that her children understand the realities of celebrity but are driven by their dedication to the craft.
