In the season one finale of the Paramount+ series "Dutton Ranch," the character Carter, played by Finn Little, faces a life-threatening situation but ultimately survives, though his future remains uncertain. The episode, titled "El Padrino," saw the body count rise with the deaths of other characters, including Dwight White and Chet Davis.
Carter's well-being had been a point of concern for viewers throughout the season, particularly after he witnessed Dwight White's murder and later ran away from home following a dispute. In the finale, Beth, played by Kelly Reilly, frantically searches for Carter after he dodges her calls. She interrogates Oreana, who assures Beth she has not seen Carter in days. However, Oreana later finds Carter camping at Dwight's house, where he apologizes for his past behavior. Oreana convinces Carter to call Beth to ease her worries, and after confirming he is safe, he ignores Beth's pleas to return home. Oreana, who is revealed to be pregnant, agrees to leave Rio Paloma with Carter to start a new life and plans to meet him later that night.
Unbeknownst to Carter, Beth and Rip, played by Cole Hauser, are engaged in a dangerous confrontation with the cartel. As Carter waits for Oreana at Dwight's house, Mariano's men knock him out, place a bag over his head, and abduct him. The season concludes with Beth learning of Carter's capture, with Mariano stating, "I have your boy." Beth responds to Rip by saying, "Then they're gonna fucking get us," indicating a confrontation is imminent.
Despite the cliffhanger and Carter's perilous situation, there is no indication that the character or actor Finn Little will be leaving the series. "Dutton Ranch" is expected to feature a significant storyline in its second season focused on rescuing Carter.
