Carrie Preston, known for her role in the CBS show "Elsbeth," has shared a list of her six favorite books. The actress stated that she is an avid reader, often with a book on her nightstand and an audiobook in her ear during any downtime from filming.
Preston gets many of her book recommendations from an informal book club with her sister Leslie and best friend Susan. "I always count on them to steer me towards my next read," she said.
The selected books span various genres and themes:
- "Yesteryear" by Caro Claire Burke: Preston described this novel as intriguing and ambitious, exploring womanhood and offering critiques of progressive viewpoints.
- "The Morning Star" by Karl Ove Knausgaard: This is a 688-page saga set in Norway, where inhabitants go about their daily lives alongside a mysterious, newly appeared star. Preston found it suspenseful, supernatural, and fascinating in its depiction of everyday life.
- "When Things Fall Apart" by Pema Chodron: An American Buddhist nun, Chodron's book offers guidance on finding inner peace during chaotic or uncertain times. Preston noted that the book offers new insights depending on the reader's current life circumstances.
- "The Member of the Wedding" by Carson McCullers: As a self-proclaimed Carson McCullers superfan and native Southerner, Preston was captivated by the story of 12-year-old Frankie Addams' longing to belong.
- "Intermezzo" by Sally Rooney: Preston praised Rooney's dialogue and pacing, noting that this particular book resonated with her due to its exploration of sibling bonds.
- "Nothing to See Here" by Kevin Wilson: Preston enjoys Wilson's unique characters and unconventional circumstances. This novel features children who spontaneously combust when agitated, serving as a commentary on finding self-worth through caring for others.
