Caroline Flack's Brother Died by Hanging, Four Times Legal Alcohol Limit, Inquest Finds

Paul Flack, the brother of former Love Island presenter Caroline Flack, died by hanging while nearly four times the legal alcohol limit, an inquest has heard. The 55-year-old had a history of depression and was also affected by the death of his sister, who took her own life six years prior, and the recent passing of his father.

Norfolk Coroner's Court was told that Mr. Flack was found by his daughter Alice, 20, in his garden in Norwich on the evening of June 21. Neighbours attempted resuscitation before paramedics arrived. He was taken to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:44 p.m. The inquest determined he had 296mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood, significantly exceeding the legal limit of 80mg.

His cause of death was recorded as 'out of hospital cardiac arrest' due to hanging. Norfolk Area Coroner Johanna Thompson delivered a narrative verdict, stating he had hanged himself while under the influence of alcohol, and his intent was unknown.

Mr. Flack's partner, Jo Millington, was heard saying after his body was discovered, "His sister did this, his sister did this." He had also been concerned about a reduction in work as a freelance graphic designer, according to reports.

Paul Flack's father, Ian, died in November of the previous year at age 77 after being diagnosed with dementia. His sister, Caroline Flack, died by suicide at age 40 on February 15, 2020. At the time of her death, she was facing charges in connection with an assault on her then-boyfriend, Lewis Burton. She had admitted to hitting him with a mobile phone after seeing a message that led her to believe he had been unfaithful. Despite Lewis Burton not pressing charges, the case proceeded, and she died shortly after learning this.

Paul Flack's final Instagram post in 2020 was a tribute to his sister. He shared a picture of them together with the caption: "This will be my last post here. May those who know feel shame for eternity. Love you Caroline."

Christine Flack, their mother, has previously spoken in a documentary about her "biggest regret" being not speaking up during her daughter's final months. She stated that she now has "nothing to lose."

Caroline Flack was a well-known television presenter in the UK, hosting shows such as The X Factor and Love Island. She also won Strictly Come Dancing and appeared in the West End production of Chicago.
