Caroline Flack's Brother Died After 'Never Recovering' From Sister's Death, Inquest Hears

The brother of television presenter Caroline Flack died having "never recovered" from his sister's death, an inquest has been told. Paul Flack, 55, was found unresponsive at his home in Norwich on June 21 and died later in hospital.

His partner told Norfolk Coroner's Court that Flack had struggled with his father developing dementia and his younger sister's death in 2020. Area Coroner Johanna Thompson delivered a narrative conclusion, stating Paul Flack died while under the influence of alcohol and that his "intent in doing so is unknown".

Paul Flack was described as "everyone's favourite person" by his partner, who added that "this took its toll". His sister, the former host of Love Island and The X Factor, was found dead at her home in London on February 15, 2020. An inquest later established that Caroline Flack took her own life at the age of 40, amid fears of press intrusion ahead of her trial for allegedly assaulting her boyfriend.

Paul Flack had sought help for low mood from his GP in August 2020, the inquest heard, but did not attend follow-up appointments or counselling. A self-employed graphic designer, he also experienced difficulties finding work as the industry declined, which his partner of 32 years said "contributed to his sadness". In 2025, his partner was diagnosed with cancer, and his father, Ian, developed dementia in his early 70s. Ian Flack died at the beginning of this year.

His partner told the court that there was "no suggestion he would ever harm himself, he said he never would." On the day of Paul Flack's death, which was Father's Day, he and his partner spent time together as a family. His daughter offered him a cup of tea and cake, but he declined and instead purchased four beers from a shop. He spent the rest of the evening in the garden listening to music while his partner and daughter watched a film indoors.

Before going to bed, his daughter discovered he was no longer in the hammock outside and subsequently found him unresponsive. A neighbour attempted CPR, and another called an ambulance. The coroner was informed that his partner had mentioned to a neighbour that he had been in a "bad mood all day," possibly due to celebrating Father's Day so soon after his father's death.

He was pronounced dead at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. A toxicology report revealed his blood alcohol level was four times the legal limit to drive. Paul Flack was born in north London but spent much of his life in Norwich. He had two children.
