Singer-songwriter Carly Simon has penned a new song, "Maybe I Never Loved You," that reflects on her past marriage to James Taylor, more than four decades after their split. The song is featured on her 24th studio album, "Comes in Waves," scheduled for release this Friday.

Lyrics from the track include lines such as "Maybe I never loved you / But anyway, I thought I did / I married you, we had a kid / That counts for something." Another lyric states, "Maybe you never loved me / Although God knows, you said you did."

Simon and Taylor were married from 1972 to 1983 and had two children together: Sally, born in 1974, and Ben, born in 1977. Their 11-year marriage was described as "far from idyllic" and ended partly due to infidelity on both sides.

The two artists collaborated on approximately 20 songs, with notable duets like "Mockingbird" (1974) and "Devoted to You" (1978). "Comes in Waves" was written and recorded at the same Martha's Vineyard home that Simon once shared with Taylor.

Simon, 83, has also been dealing with personal health challenges. On July 27, she announced her diagnosis with Parkinson's disease and also underwent surgery for basal cell carcinoma on her face. She previously battled breast cancer, undergoing a mastectomy, chemotherapy, and reconstructive surgery between 1997 and 1998.

Taylor, 78, has been married to his third wife, Caroline "Kim" Smedvig, since 2001, and they have twin sons. He continues to tour, with upcoming performances scheduled for August 30, September 1, and September 2.

Simon, known for her 1972 hit "You're So Vain," has influenced many younger artists and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022. She has sold over 50 million records worldwide.
