Carli Lloyd, a former star for the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team and current World Cup analyst for Fox, has responded to body-shaming comments made on social media. The remarks came after Lloyd offered her critique of the U.S. Men's National Team's performance in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Lloyd, who is pregnant with her second child, was working as an analyst for Fox during the tournament. Following the USMNT's Round of 16 exit after a loss to Belgium, Lloyd commented on player Christian Pulisic's response to an ankle injury. Pulisic had stated he would "get time to rest," to which Lloyd replied, "You rest when your playing career is over. Period."
One user responded to Lloyd's comment with a personal insult about her appearance, stating, "Looks like you’ve been resting really good lately big mama." Lloyd, 43, fired back, questioning the user's respect for women and their decision to hide behind a keyboard.
Throughout the World Cup, Lloyd has been vocal in her analysis. After the U.S. men's team was eliminated, she expressed disappointment, stating that the team seemed to have lost the game before stepping onto the pitch.
"I’m not sure why, and I don’t know the reasons, but just from the beginning, just chasing, tentative, scared, just not confident on the ball," Lloyd said. "And I think big-time players – you wanted some of those big-time players to step up in big moments."
She specifically mentioned Pulisic again, saying, "I gotta be honest, I was a bit disappointed with Christian Pulisic. I think whether he wants to be the star of this team or not, we didn’t see enough from him in this particular game and really the whole World Cup. Little glimpses here and there."
Lloyd is a two-time FIFA Player of the Year and was a key player for the U.S. Women's National Team, winning the World Cup in 2015 and 2019. She also scored game-winning goals in the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games finals.
