Carey Mulligan and Marcus Mumford Host Charity Event in Los Angeles

Carey Mulligan and her husband, musician Marcus Mumford, hosted their annual Wassail benefit at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday. The event raised $7.65 million for Children in Conflict, an organization that supports children in war zones.

Mulligan, 41, wore a floor-length green floral dress, while Mumford opted for a black blazer with an open-collared white shirt. This marked the first time the couple has held their charity event in Los Angeles, having previously hosted it in New York and London.

Comedian Jack Whitehall served as the emcee for the evening, with performances by Mumford & Sons, Brandi Carlile, Sierra Ferrell, and Jensen McRae.

The event follows Mumford's recent lifestyle overhaul, during which he lost approximately five stone (30kg). Mumford detailed in February to Men's Health that he adopted a healthier lifestyle to improve his energy on stage and address his dissatisfaction with his appearance.

Now weighing around 80kg (12.5 stone), Mumford described his approach to touring as an "athletics programme, rather than as a party." He incorporated running during the COVID-19 pandemic, followed by strength training with a portable gym rig taken on tour. He also noted the mental benefits of these routines and engaging in 8-a-side football with others on tour.

"I looked in the mirror one day and was like, 'I'm not in control,'" Mumford told Men's Health. He consulted a doctor friend who provided strategies to regain control and feel more empowered in his body.

Mumford also shared that he stopped drinking seven or eight years ago. His surfing has also improved as a result of his focus on general health. While he has completed marathons, he now prioritizes gym-based workouts to manage knee strain.

In a February interview with The Guardian, Mumford spoke about his admiration for Mulligan, calling her a "legend." The couple married in 2012 and have three children. They first met at a summer camp in their childhood and later reconnected, with Mumford proposing in August 2011.
