Carey Mulligan and Marcus Mumford Host Charity Event in Los Angeles

Carey Mulligan and her husband, musician Marcus Mumford, hosted their annual Wassail benefit at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, raising $7.65 million for the charity Children in Conflict. The organization supports children living in warzones.
Mulligan, 41, wore a floor-length green floral dress, while Mumford opted for a black blazer with a white open-collared shirt. This marked the first time the couple has held their charity event in Los Angeles, having previously hosted it in New York and London.
Comedian Jack Whitehall served as the emcee for the evening. Musical performances included Mumford & Sons, Brandi Carlile, Sierra Ferrell, and Jensen McRae.
The event follows Mumford's recent discussions about his significant lifestyle overhaul, which included losing approximately five stone (30kg). He detailed how going sober, incorporating surfing, and using a portable gym rig while on tour contributed to his improved health and energy levels.
Mumford told Men's Health in February that he began running more during the COVID-19 pandemic and incorporated strength training with the help of a friend. The band now travels with a gym rig, which Mumford described as a beneficial part of his daily routine and a bonding activity with other tour members. He also mentioned participating in 8-a-side football matches.
He explained that he decided to approach touring more like an "athletics programme, rather than as a party" after feeling a lack of control over his well-being. He consulted a doctor friend who offered guidance on regaining that control.
Mumford also shared that he stopped drinking alcohol seven or eight years ago. While he has completed marathons, he now focuses more on gym-based workouts to avoid knee issues. He noted that his surfing has also improved as a result of his general health improvements.
In a February interview with The Guardian, Mumford offered a rare insight into his marriage to Mulligan, whom he married in 2012. The couple has three children. When asked about who he admires most, he stated, "Sickeningly, it’s probably my wife, because she’s a legend."
Mulligan and Mumford first met at a summer camp when he was 10 and she was 12. They maintained contact as pen pals but lost touch for about a decade before reconnecting. Mumford proposed to Mulligan in August 2011, five months after they rekindled their relationship.
