Cardinals Coach LaFleur Seeks Answers for Marvin Harrison Jr.'s Slow Start

Arizona Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur is strategizing to integrate wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. into the offense more effectively, acknowledging the player's struggles through the initial games of the season. Harrison, the fourth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, has recorded only one reception through the first two weeks.

Following the Cardinals' 31-7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, LaFleur discussed the team's offensive approach and the role Harrison occupies. "You also have Trey McBride who’s one of the best underneath guys in the world, and there’s only 65 plays a game, and you got to run the ball. You got Kendrick [Bourne] who works underneath pretty well too. So, everyone’s kinda got their role right there," LaFleur stated on Monday.

Harrison, a former Biletnikoff Award winner, entered the league with significant expectations, often compared to other prominent receivers like Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase. However, his professional debut has not mirrored his collegiate success. In the Week 2 matchup against Seattle, Harrison had one target and no catches, while quarterback Jacoby Brissett primarily targeted tight end Trey McBride, who finished with eight receptions for 41 yards.

LaFleur indicated that the team's offensive strategy involves distributing targets among established players. He also commented on how Arizona might utilize Harrison in their upcoming Week 3 game against the San Francisco 49ers. "That means we won’t [work Harrison underneath] this week if we think that’s what’s best," LaFleur said, suggesting a potential shift in approach.

The Cardinals, who secured an unexpected win against the Chargers in Week 1, will look to Harrison for a more impactful performance when they face the 49ers.
