Cardiff City Player Banned and Fined for Fan Altercation
Krystian Bielik receives two-match suspension and £10,000 penalty after admitting misconduct during a match.
Cardiff City midfielder Krystian Bielik has been handed a two-match ban and a £10,000 fine after admitting to misconduct during a Championship match against Portsmouth on September 5. The incident occurred in the 71st minute at Fratton Park when Bielik, attempting to retrieve the ball from the stands, became involved in an altercation with a group of fans.
Video footage showed a young fan throwing the ball away from Bielik, prompting the player to reach out towards the fan's throat and push them. The fan then stood up and appeared to push Bielik in retaliation. Following the incident, the supporter was ejected from the stadium.
The Football Association (FA) investigated the incident, with Bielik admitting the charge of improper conduct. An independent Regulatory Commission imposed the sanctions after a hearing.
Hampshire police also reviewed the incident but concluded that no further action was necessary. Bielik, who joined Cardiff in the summer from West Brom, has reportedly apologized for his actions.
The ban means Bielik will miss Cardiff's upcoming Championship matches against Blackburn and Watford. This is his fourth appearance for the club.
Cardiff manager Bryan Barry-Murphy stated after the match that Bielik had been "slapped in the face" by the fan and praised the referee for handling the situation effectively. Portsmouth manager John Mousinho expressed his anger at the circumstances that led to the incident.
